Buy these for kids learning to tie shoe laces – from a pediatric OT

I’m a pediatric occupational therapist and teach children fine motor skills such as tying shoe laces. I’ve used these laces since since 2002. I like that the laces are one color on half and another color on the other half so it is easy for kids to see which lace is crossing over or under the other lace as that is very confusing for kids learning to tie laces. Then of course I love that they are so stiff so they don’t flop over when little fingers are trying to manipulate them. They are super sturdy and I’ve had some laces for many many years that I’ve use in the clinic daily. I recommend these enough for anyone learning to tie shoe laces as it makes it so easy.

The Easy Tie Story

As a former elementary school teacher with a focus on special education, Brandee has been dedicated to helping children tie for over 15 years.

The Beginning of Easy Tie

When I saw how much children struggled to learn to tie their shoes, I knew there had to be a better way. Even after multiple shoe-tying sessions, many still had trouble—not because they didn’t understand what to do, but because the process was too confusing. To make things clearer, I used two old shoelaces in different colors, and most kids were able to tie their shoes on the first try.
